B.E.M. London Gazette 10 June 1948. The recommendation states: ‘In addition to keeping himself in regular flying practise as a pilot, Pilot II Hurn undertook, on his own initiative, to build up an extensive farm at Miho [Japan] for the purpose of providing fresh eggs, vegetables, and meats to improve the standard of messing on the Station.’
