D.S.M. London Gazette 29 February 1944. Awarded for Mediterranean patrols from February to October 1943. S/M Torbay sank Supply Ships and bombarded Amorgos Island in the Cyclades (Ref Seedie‘s Submarine List).

Charles Herbert Frostick joined the submarine service in October 1940 and was posted in March 1941 to his first submarine
Torbay, in which he served until 1944. He had the distinction of serving under one of the most famous and successful submarine skippers, Commander A. A. C. Miers, V.C., D.S.O., for his entire commission, and remained in Torbay under Lieutenant R. J. Clutterbuck, D.S.O., for his commission, completing a total of 22 war patrols in Mediterranean and Aegean waters.

Torbay was the highest-scoring T-class submarine, with a total of 57,990 tons of Axis shipping sunk, including the Italian submarine Jantina sunk on 5 July 1941. The first commission included the famous penetration and attack on Corfu Roads in March 1942, for which Commander Miers was awarded the Victoria Cross, and the landing of commandos west of Apollonia on the North African coast in November 1941, for the ill-fated attack on Rommel’s Headquarters.

Frostick served in the submarine service for a total of 22 years, and served on no less than 14 submarines, including a spell on the German UJ-1105 just after the end of hostilities, returning to general service with the rank of Chief Mechanician (Engineering). Sold with extensive research including patrol reports.
