D.C.M. London Gazette 30 July 1917: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty with his battery when under very heavy shell fire and gas attacks. On several occasions he displayed the utmost gallantry and disregard of danger by leaving cover and proceeding under heavy shell fire to the rescue of wounded men, on one occasion providing transport for them at great personal risk by stopping a lorry under very heavy shell fire.’
