John Joseph Greene was born on 10 October 1848. He entered the Army Medical Department as a Surgeon, 31 March 1874. He crossed the frontier into Afghanistan on 1 April 1880 while serving with the 2nd Division of the Kandahar Field Force at Baba Hissan, Kabul, and re-crossed the frontier on 24 August 1880. Promoted to Surgeon Major, 31 March 1886; Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel, 31 March 1884; Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Army Medical Corps, 31 March 1884; retired 5 April 1889; died 18 Aug. 1899. Sold with confirmation.
