Jim ‘Strasse’ Street was in 5 Platoon, B Coy, 2 Para, in the Falklands, where he was wounded by gunshot in the fighting at Boca House on 28 May, 1982, during the action at Goose Green. He is mentioned by name in several publications including Goose Green, by Mark Adkin: ‘It was when the time came to move back up the slope and on to the summit of Hill B that 5 Platoon took the first casualties of this part of the battle. The choice was between running, quicker, but with the runners exposed and easily spotted, or crawling, which was slower but less obvious. Weighell chose the latter. To provide some cover from view Private Street, an old sweat nicknamed ‘Strasse‘ who was the 2-inch mortarman, fired several smoke bombs but was hit twice in the left leg. Corporal Standish and Private Brook came up under fire to assist. They took a chance, grabbed Street and began staggering up the 70-metre slope towards the crest and safety. They could only go five or six metres before having to fling themselves down to avoid the bullets that their efforts attracted. Street came in for some very rough handling. His yells of pain and protest were heard by many.’
