Argyll and Bute Rifles (Militia), an excessively fine and rare officer’s pouch belt plate, in two part silver plate, of large ovoid form, the crown of Scotland over thistle sprays enclosing St Andrew & Cross, at the base a scroll inscribed ‘Argyll and Bute Rifles’, fitted with shaped backing plate and four bolt fasteners c1859-1861, near mint state £300-400

The Argyll & Bute Militia formed in 1802 were elevated to Rifles status in 1859 but converted to Artillery in 1861. Harts List for 1862 shows the strange title Argyll & Bute Artillery (Rifles)
