Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (19111 Pte-L. Cpl. A. Asher, 1/Wilts. R.) edge bruising, fine £700-800

D.C.M. London Gazette 30 October 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when the enemy were attacking in force. He observed a machine gun well in front of the line whose team had become casualties. He rushed out under heavy fire, manned the gun, and together with a corporal inflicted severe casualties on the advancing enemy. When a withdrawal became necessary, he took up another position with his gun and covered it effectually. His example of courage and initiative had an excellent effect on the men.’

Arthur Asher came from Amesbury and served with the Dorset Regiment; gaining the D.C.M. with the Wiltshire Regiment. Also awarded the British War and Victory Medals. With copied gazette extract and other notes.
