A Great War M.C. group of four awarded to Lieutenant H. J. Plunkett, 9th Battalion London Regiment, late Army Service Corps

Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed, in case of issue; 1914-15 Star (M2-033500 Pte., A.S.C.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut.) these three in damaged named card boxes of issue, extremely fine (4) £1000-1200

M.C. London Gazette 18 July 1918. ‘2nd Lt Harold Joseph Plunkett, London Rgt.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a hostile attack, when he was in command of two platoons. His position was repeatedly attacked, being at times surrounded by the enemy, but he maintained it until he was relieved six days later. The maintenance of this position was of the highest importance to his own battalion and flank battalion of the next division.’

Harold Joseph Plunkett was born on 26 June 1895. At the time of the war he was a Student of Motor Engineering and lived at 72 Woodside Park Road, North Finchley, London, N12. He served with the 1st London Division A.S.C. (T.F.) September-December 1914 and then with the regular army A.S.C., December 1914-April 1917. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 9th Battalion London Regiment on 25 April 1917 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 15 November 1918. For his gallantry in action he was awarded the M.C.

With the recipient’s Army Book 439; Territorial Force Certificate of Discharge, December 1914; Discharge Certificate, April 1917; Protection Certificate; and several other papers and card.
