Three: Captain L. G. A. Curties, 8th Battalion East Kent Regiment, attached Machine Gun Corps, killed in action at the battle of Loos, 26 September 1915

Lionel Charles Alfred Curties was born on 13 March 1885, son of Rev. T. A. Curties. He was educated at Lancing College - leaving July 1903. Employed as an Articled Clerk with F. G. Stenning of Maidstone, he joined the Army on 18 September 1914 as a Private in the University and Public Schools Corps. Gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th Battalion East Kent Regiment, he attained the rank of Captain in June 1915. Was attached to the Staff of the 72nd Infantry Brigade and was appointed Brigade Machine Gun Officer. Initially reported missing, he was later confirmed as killed in action at the battle of Loos, 26 September 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. With some research notes and a photocopied photograph.
