John Williams was born in Wrexham, Denbighshire and enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in January 1900, aged 20 years. He subsequently witnessed active service in the Boer War and was awarded the Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps for ‘Cape Colony’, ‘Orange Free State’, ‘Transvaal’, ‘South Africa 1901’ and ‘South Africa 1902’. He was discharged in June 1902; sold with copied service record and medal roll extract.
