R.R.C. London Gazette 7 February 1919. ‘... in recognition of their valuable services with the British Forces in East Africa.’ ‘Miss Marie Gilkes-Robinson, Matron, T.F.N.S.’

Marie Gilkes-Robinson trained as a Nurse at Brentford Infirmary, Isleworth, 1900-03. She served as a Nurse at the General Hospital, Swansea and as a Sister at the Devonshire Hospital, Buxton. In 1907 she was appointed a Sister at the General Infirmary, Gloucester. Later, returning to the Devonshire Hospital, she was appointed a Sister and Assistant Matron in charge of the Electrical and Massage Department. In 1912 she became Matron at the Royal Albert Hospital, Devonport. During the Great War she served with the T.F.N.S., entering the East Africa theatre of war on 26 November 1917. For her services in that difficult environment she was awarded the R.R.C. 1st Class. Miss Gilkes-Robinson died in Oxford on 30 January 1945, aged 68 years. With copied research.
