United States of America, Centennial of the invention of the Reaper, 1931, a bronze medal by Medallic Art Co for the International Harvester Co, bust of Cyrus McCormick three-quarters left, reverse man on horseback pulling a reaper, another man following behind, 70mm. Very fine (£20-30)

Cyrus Hall McCormick (1809-84), son of a farmer from Rockbridge, Virginia, invented the mechanical reaper in 1831. He made a fortune with it through his business talents and mass-production methods, opening up a plant in Chicago. After his death his company merged with others to form the International Harvester Company
