China, antique balance or steelyard scale, contained in an ‘violin’ shaped and fitted dark rosewood box with swivelling lid, single brass pan and separate weight, ivory steelyard marked in black, 310mm; another, slightly smaller, contained in a similar shaped and fitted patinated bamboo box with swivelling lid, single brass pan, ivory steelyard marked in black (lacking the separate weight), 280mm; another, 19th century, with brass pan and weight and bone arm, contained in a carved bamboo violin-shaped fitted case, 340mm [3].
