Sold with copied photograph of recipient and research detail , including obituary taken from regimental journals. The following detail is extracted from Regimental Sergeant Major W. (Jerry) Horner’s obituary ‘The sudden death of “Jerry” Horner in York Hospital on 27 November 1960, was a tragic blow to all who knew him. Joining the West Yorkshire Regiment at York in 1919, he was posted to the 1st Battalion on Salisbury Plain as a drummer. In 1927 he came back to duty company and was posted in 1929 to the Depot as a weapon training instructor. He was well known for his ability on weapon training and spent most of his service in this capacity. During the 1939-45 War, “Jerry” was promoted R.S.M. and was stationed with No.6 I.T.C. at Berwick-on-Tweed. At the end of the war he retired with the rank of R.S.M.’
