Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Egypt (Sergt. W. Stevenson, Drumr. 79th Foot 1801) the rank ‘Sergt’ and date ‘1801’ privately engraved, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise very fine £400-450

Sergeant William Stevenson was awarded a very rare regimental medal for ‘Gallant Conduct’ in Egypt 1801 (Ref Balmer R484) of which only two examples are known. Stevenson’s medal is believed to be in the collection at the West Highland Museum, Fort William. The second medal, awarded to J. McLaren, was formerly in the Gaskell and Ridsdale collections and was sold by Spink in the 1970’s.
