Sutherland Rifle Volunteers 4th Duchess Harriet’s Company, Rogart), an extremely fine and scarce officer’s die-stamped silver plated pouch belt plate c1860-1868, a ducal coronet above an oval bearing the unit title and enclosing a shield of Arms with thistle wreaths around the oval (Bloomer p79/80), three screw fasteners, excellent condition £150-200

Harriet Elizabeth Georgiana Howard 3rd daughter of the 6th Earl of Carlisle married George Granville Leveson-Gower, Marquess of Stafford in 1823, he upon his father’s death in 1833 succeeded as the 2nd Duke of Sutherland; their eldest son George Granville William (later the 3rd Duke) raised and commanded the Sutherland Rifle Volunteers naming the 4th Company in his mother’s honour, she died in 1868; the Arms shown in the badge are, Gower and Leveson (dexter) and Howard (sinister).
