16th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers, a very scarce other ranks white metal QVC star pattern helmet plate c1878-1880, strung bugle horn centre with ‘16th Lanarkshire R.V.’ in surround [Bloomer p41/42], the cross is missing from the orb of the crown otherwise excellent condition £80-120

The 16th was the senior company of the former 1st Administrative Battalion, this was consolidated in 1873 as the 16th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers, being renumbered as the 2nd in 1880, later the 2nd Volunteer Battalion, The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).
