Angostura Bitters were the invention of a Dr Johann Siegert, appointed by Simon Bolivar to be Surgeon-General of the Military Hospital in the town of Angostura. In 1824, after four years looking for a cure for tropical stomach disorders, he perfected a unique blend of herbs which he called ‘Amargo Aromatico’ or aromatic bitters
