St Mary's College opened in 1863 as an all-boys Catholic School, on the site of the old St George's College. There were 14 pupils, of whom 8 were boarders, who were taught Latin, Greek, English, French, Spanish, History, Geography, Science, Mathematics and Music. English and French were the school's official languages
