Sunderland Football Club, League Champions 1901-2, a gold award medal by W.H. Haseler, football atop oval shield, rev. trophy, hallmarked Birmingham 1901, 32mm, 9ct, 15.49g. About very fine, very rare; with scroll mount and loop for suspension, pin-mounted on back £200-300

Sunderland FC, founded in 1879, did not join the Football League until 1890, but won the First Division title five times before the Great War, in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1902 and 1913, as well as being runners-up in 1894, 1898 and 1901. In the late 19th century they were known as the ‘team of all talents’ and they took their fourth league title in 1902 by finishing 3 points clear of Everton
