Victoria, Diamond Jubilee, 1897, Borough of Gorton, Manchester, a silver-gilt medal by J. Walker, veiled bust left, rev. presented by ernest f.g. hatch m.p. to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of h.m. queen victoria, 38mm (W & E 3562D.3). Extremely fine and very rare £50-70
Sir Ernest Frederic George Hatch, 1st Bt, KBE (1859-1927), founder of the wine merchants Hatch Mansfield & Co in 1894, was Conservative MP for Gorton from 1895-1904. In that year he crossed the floor and spent the next two years as a Liberal. He withdrew as a candidate at the General Election of 1906
