Vandals in North Africa, Siliqua, in the name of Honorius, Carthage, c. 440-490, diademed bust right, rev. Roma seated, 1.6 gm (MEC 1, 1-2; MIB — ; BMC 2, 6-9). Scratches to portrait, better than fine (£40-50)
This coin belongs to the earliest phase of Vandal coinage, struck during the first fifty years after their arrival in North Africa in 435. Probably minted at the capital, Carthage, it copies siliquae of Honorius, even reproducing the mint mark rvps, Ravenna postulatum, i.e. refined silver of Ravenna
