Edward Charles White was born at Portsea, Hampshire, on 17 October 1881, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S.
St Vincent on 6 July 1897. He joined Orlando in February 1899 and whilst serving in this ship became Ordinary Seaman in October 1899 and Able Seaman in July 1901. White was sentenced by Court Martial on 9 March 1914 to 1 year’s imprisonment and to be dismissed from the Service, for ‘attempting to procure the commission of an act of gross indecency’. Sold with copied record of service.
