Three: Captain J. W. Pain, Royal Air Force, late Suffolk Regiment and Royal Flying Corps

1914 Star, with copy clasp (Lieut., Suff. R.); British War and Victory Medals (Capt., R.A.F.) mounted as worn, nearly extremely fine (3) £260-300

A ‘Captain W. J. Pain’ is listed in ‘Royal Flying Corps Communiques 1915-1916’ - ‘Capt. C. J. Mackay and Capt. W. J. Pain in a B.E. of 2 Sqn, located an A.A. Battery firing on our machines and obtained a direct hit on it from the 117th Heavy Battery. The A.A. battery ceased firing.’

In the April 1918 Air Force List he is listed as an ‘Aeroplane and Seaplane Officer’.
