Only Masters of Transports received the 1882 Medal, making them unique to each of the 105 vessels employed.

George Phillips, who was born in Bristol in 1832 and took his Master’s ticket in April 1860, appears to have spent the majority of his seagoing career with the British India Steam Navigation Co., including his appointment as Master of the
Bhandara - note correct spelling - during the Egyptian operations of 1882, when she embarked the 1st Battalion, Manchester Regiment for Alexandria. He came ashore in 1888; sold with full career details.
