BRITISH COINS Edward III 1327 - 77, Third Period, Noble, mm. cross pattée on reverse only, reads EDWAR, chevron-barred A, coarse style with large nailheads on ship’s side, reverse large E in centre, larger lettering, double saltire stops both sides, 8.36gms (Potter IIa; Schneider –; N 1110; S 1481). Possible trace of mounting at 9 o’clock on reverse edge, otherwise a good full weight example, fine and clear, very rare (£500-700)

Potter (NC 1963) listed a total of 14 nobles of the Third Period, a figure which could be increased to 25 or so with the passage of time over the past four decades
