Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (49321 Pte.-L. Cpl., 2/(G) Bn. North’d. Fus.) slight edge bruising, very fine £120-160

M.S.M. London Gazette 22 September 1919. ‘... in recognition of valuable services rendered with the British Forces in Mesopotamia.’ ‘49321 Pte. (L./C.), 2nd (G) Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers (Lochgelly).’

164 M.S.M’s. awarded to the Northumberland Fusiliers; 16 for ‘Mesopotamia’.

Private William Mathieson, Royal Highlanders, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 10 May 1915. Later, serving as a Lance-Corporal with the 2nd Garrison Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers in Mesopotamia, he was awarded the M.S.M. After the war he was transferred to the Class ‘Z’ Reserve. Ebtitled to the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals. With copied gazette extract and m.i.c. for the M.S.M. and W.W.1 medals.
