M.B.E. London Gazette 3 June 1935. ‘Captain John David Tritton, Coast Battalion, Royal Engineers, Adjutant, Essex Group, Anti-Aircraft Searchlight Companies, Royal Engineers, Territorial Army.’

John David Tritton was born on 13 September 1880. As a Mechanical Quartermaster Sergeant in the R.E. he entered the India theatre of war on 24 May 1917. For his wartime services he was awarded the British War Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. After over 11 years in the ranks and over 3 years as a Warrant Officer, Tritton was commissioned a Lieutenant on 2 September 1920. In September 1928 he was promoted to Captain.
