A rare Great War Group of four to Clifford Gould, a civilian serving with the Royal Navy and Mercantile Marine

1914-15 Star (
Service with the Royal Navy); British War Medal (Clifford Gould); Mercantile Marine War Medal (Clifford Gould); Victory Medal (Service with the Royal Navy) all four medals contained in their original card boxes of issue, extremely fine (4) £80-120

Whilst the British war Medal is occasionally seen named ‘Service with the Royal Navy’, it is rare to see the 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal thus named. Medals named in this fashion were awarded to civilians who were serving with the Royal Navy in a non combatant capacity, such as canteen staff, etc. Sold with a copy of an article written by Norman Gooding and published in the O.M.R.S. journal, Summer 1985 on this subject.
