Second Lieutenant Godfrey Leveson Ian Smith, the fourth son of Colonel F. S. Smith, C.V.O., C.B. of Duffield Hall, Derby was educated at Eton and commissioned into the Coldstream Guards on 15 April 1915. He was killed in action at the Chalk Quarries, Loos on 29 September 1915 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France.
