40th (Central London Rifle Rangers) Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, a very scarce officer’s black leather flap pouch mounted with a two part silver plated badge, a crown over a circular strap which is pierced ‘CENTRAL LONDON RIFLE RANGERS’, centrally a shield with the Arms of Middlesex and superimposed ‘XL’, c1860-1880, very good condition £60-100

The 40th Middlesex were raised in 1860, HQ Gray’s Inn Place, re-numbered 22nd in 1880 and became the12th Battalion, The London Regiment in 1908.
