These medals were presented to each of the 1,300 children, all aged between eight and thirteen years, who attended the banquet held at the Guildhall in the city of London on 28 December 1914. The medals were specially commissioned by Queen Alexandra, and were designed and manafactured by the firm of Elkington’s, London. All the children present at this banquet were chosen by Sir James Gildea and the Soldier‘s and Sailor’s Families Association, the qualification being that their fathers must be either serving in the Grand Fleet or in the trenches with the British Army. Sold with a detailed article written by Jack Stratfull and published in the O.M.R.S. journal.
