Boer War Tribute Medal From The County of Derbyshire, in silver, in the form of a six pointed star, 30mm by 43mm, the uppermost point of which is displaced by a crown, with gilt central medallion bearing a stag encircled by a fence, and the arms decorated by a fleur de lis, the reverse inscribed ‘Pte. F. W. Upton’, with double loop suspension, nearly extremely fine £150-200

Boer War Tribute Medals, by M. G. Hibbard states that just thee examples of this medal are known to exist, this does not include Upton’s medal. One of the medals stated by Hibbard as known be extant was sold by Spink on 21 October 1999, lot 1224 (£290).

Private F. W. Upton is confirmed as having served with the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Derbyshire Regiment.
