France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals; R.S.P.C.A. Silver Medal for Animal Life Saving, with second award bar, dated ‘1941’ (Inspr. W. Barsby, R.S.P.C.A. 1939) complete with integral ‘For Humanity’ top bar brooch; together with named box of issue for Second War medals; transmission and medal entitlement slip, extremely fine (4) £150-200

Squadron Leader William David Barsby was awarded the R.S.P.C.A ‘s. silver medal for rescuing two goats from the cliffs at Pendeen on 29 August 1939; subsequently awarded a second award bar in October 1941 ‘in recognition of courage and humanity in rescuing animals from premises rendered dangerous by enemy action‘. Later that same month he resigned his position with the R.S.P.C.A. being commissioned into the Royal Air Force.

The medal entitlement slip confirms that Barsby was not entitled to the 1939-45 Star.
