Major Alexander Rorke, Reserve of Officers, late Royal Engineers. Awarded the Military Cross London Gazette 30 March 1916: ‘Temp. Second Lieutenant, 17th divisional Signal Company, Royal Engineers. For conspicuous gallantry during operations in repeatedly going out and laying and repairing lines under heavy shell fire, thus keeping up communications.’ Thrice mentioned in despatches London Gazette 30 March 1916, 16 January and 5 June 1919. He served in France from 29 May 1915 and is entitled to the 1914-15 Star Trio. It is believed that he served in Iraq and North West Persia in a civilian capacity.
