A pair of Prize Medals awarded to Sir John Helier Le Rougetel, K.C.M.G., M.C. and Bar, Late Northampton Regiment and Machine Gun Corps
a) Cambridge University, struck bronze prize medal, 48mm, obverse arms of university with legend ‘Universitas Cantabrigiensis’, reverse with laurel surrounding ‘Greber Utraque Manu’, edge inscribed ‘J. H. Le Rougetel, Nov. 27 1919’.
b)
Belgium, Federation of The Chamber of Commerce and Industry, struck bronze medallion, 70mm, obverse centre with patriotic design, surrounded by legend ‘Federation Nationale Des Chambres De Commerce Et D’Industrie De Belgique’, reverse inscribed ‘A S.E. Sir John Le Rougetel, K.C.M.G., M.C., Ambassadeur De Sa Majeste Britannique’, both medals contained in their fitted cases of issue; together with, Guernsey International Red Cross Parcel badge; La Martiniere school, Calcutta silver prize medals (2); Birmingham Boer War tribute medal, in white metal; Board of Trade Rocket Apparatus, Proof of Service at a Wreck token, good very fine or better (7) £70-100

Sir John Helier Le Rougetel, K.C.M.G., M.C. and bar was born in June 1894, educated at Magdelene College, Cambridge and served throughout the Great War. Entered the Diplomatic Service in 1920, served at Vienna, Budapest, Ottawa, Tokyo, Pekin, The Hague, Bucharest, Moscow, Shanghai, and at the Foreign Office. He was in Shanghai when it was occupied by the Japanese in 1942 was taken prisoner and later repatriated. Ambassador to Persia 1946-50, Ambassador to Belgium 1950-51, High Commissioner for the U.K. in South Africa 1951 until his retirement in 1955.
