Charles Thomas Douglas was born in Holborn, London, on 6 December 1896. He entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in June 1915. Based on
Dido, he served on the destroyers Leonidas and Springbok throughout the war, being promoted to Stoker 1st Class in February 1916. Post-war, he was promoted to Acting Leading Stoker in March 1923 when on Ramillies; Acting Stoker Petty Officer in October 1923 when at Pembroke I; Stoker Petty Officer in October 1924 when on Birmingham, and Acting Mechanician in July 1927 when at Pembroke II. As Chief Mechanician, he was mentioned in despatches for his services aboard the cruiser Caledon which was later to receive battle honours for the Mediterranean.

With W.W.2 card box of issue, addressed to ‘Mr C. T. Douglas, 17 Stanley Rd., Gorringe Park, Mitcham, Surrey. With an envelope bearing the same address. Together with copied service paper and other research.
