Three: Serjeant J. Wilding, 13th Husssars

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 4 clasps, Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (2747 Serjt., 13/Hussars); King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (2747 Serjt., 13th Hussars); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (2747 Sjt., 13/Hrs.) mounted court style for wear, contact marks and edge bruising, nearly very fine (3) £160-200

John Wilding was born in Hampshire. Under the alias of ‘Henry Knowlton’, he attested for the 13th Hussars at Manchester on 3 June 1887, aged 20 years 1 month. With the 13th Hussars he served in South Africa, November 1899-October 1902. Awarded the Army Long Service Medal in October 1907, he was discharged on the termination of his second period of engagement on 30 July 1908. On 23 September 1914 he attested for the Army Reserve (Special Reserve), this time listing his place of birth in Radnorshire. Posted to the Reserve Cavalry, he served at home until discharged in February 1919. With copied attestation papers (1887 and 1914) and medal roll extracts.
