D.C.M. London Gazette 16 January 1915. ‘For gallantry on 31st October in leading some men through a gap in a hedge on the enemy’s front, under a heavy fire, being wounded in so doing’.

Frank Cyril John Hill was born in Oxford and enlisted at Reading. Serving as a Private in the 1st Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. He was awarded the D.C.M. for his actions at Gheluvelt, 31 October 1914, being wounded in the process. Invalided to England, he died of his wounds on 27 February 1915, aged 25 years. He was buried in Netley Military Cemetery. With some copied research including a modern photograph of his headstone.
