32nd Midlothian Volunteer Rifles, a very scarce officer’s silver plated shako plate, the design of a three headed thistle spray with central oval circlet inscribed ‘1 battalion. midlothian. v.r.’, in the centre the mounted numerals ‘32’ secured by nut and bolt, with motto ‘nemo me impune lacessit’, two loop fasteners to the reverse, the ‘32’ secured rather crudely, otherwise in excellent condition £100-150

This plate most probably pertains to the 1st Consolidated Battalion (Leith) following the division of the former 1st Administrative Battalion, the ‘32’ referring to the County Precedence number. Formed in 1880 the unit became the 5th Volunteer Battalion, The Royal Scots, in 1888.
