Hammer Price:

An Interesting German Second War Brass Tobacco Case, the outer lid with applied swastika, below which is a depiction of a submarine and ‘U24’, the interior of the case adapted to house a pocket watch, together with an ornate nickel cased pocket watch, the watch possibly in need of some repair, otherwise good condition £160-180

The U-24 was responsible for sinking a total of seven ships during World War II, and on 27 May 1944 fought a surface battle with two Soviet patrol boats; in which action she lost one man killed and two wounded. The U-24 was scuttled by her own crew on 25 August 1944 at Konstanza in the Black Sea, she was subsequently raised by the Russians in 1960 and broken up.
