Gordon Robert Wallace, who was born in Edinburgh in December 1892, first entered the Egyptian theatre of war in late March 1915, and was subsequently mentioned in despatches for his services in the Egyptian Expeditionary Force by General Sir Archibald Murray (London Gazette 25 September 1916 refers); sold with an original wartime photograph of the recipient in front of the pyramids.
