1914 Star (10742 Pte. C. Clare, 1/Conn. Rang.) good very fine £70-90

Charles Clare was born, lived and enlisted at Warrington, Lancashire. He served initially with the 2nd Battalion South Lancashire Regiment. Serving with the 1st Battalion Connaught Rangers, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 26 September 1914. He was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 21 January 1916, aged 24 years - probably at the action at Umm-al-Hanna. His name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.
