Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (G. Hawkes, Boy 1 Cl., H.M.S. Dragon), edge nicks otherwise better than very fine £100-120

George Hawkes was born in Dover, Kent in September 1864 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in May 1880. Having then witnessed active service off Egypt in H.M.S. Dragon in 1882, in which year he was also advanced to Ordinary Seaman, he came ashore time expired in the rate of Able Seaman in September 1892. Hawkes subsequently enrolled in the Royal Fleet Reserve in April 1903 and was ‘discharged dead’ in December 1910.
