The published rolls confirm Joseph Taylor as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Illustrious for the Java operations. Originally from Warwickshire, he appears to have been an ex-Merchant Navy man who volunteered at Bombay in May 1810; three men with these names were awarded the Medal for Syria.
