Horace James Edward Wyld was born in October 1912 and enlisted into the 30th London Battalion, Royal West Kents in February 1930. Transferring to the 17th London Tower Hamlets Rifles in 1934 and to the Royal Engineers in August 1939, he removed once more, in November of the same year, to the Royal Artillery. His subsequent appointments included 170 H.A.A. Regiment, R.A., from November 1939 until May 1940, and 440 Independent Battery, R.A., from June 1940 until January 1941. Wyld next served with the 1st Maritime Regiment, R.A., from August 1941 until April 1944, being commissioned a Lieutenant in December 1943, and latterly in 108 H.A.A. Regiment, R.A. He was appointed a Temporary Captain in August 1945. Awarded the Efficiency Medal (London Gazette 6 May 1949).
