Best died on active service on 25 September 1943, while serving in the Royal Artillery in North Africa, an accompanying note stating of crush injuries and shock. He was 22 years of age and is buried in Beja War Cemetery, Tunisia; the above described forwarding box is addressed to the recipient’s mother, ‘Mrs. A. Best, 30 Sommerville St., Burntisland, Fife.’
