The partners in the bank, established in 1796, were Samuel Tuffley Harding, who made his fortune from calico printing, Charles Oakes, the town clerk, and Thomas Willington, a solicitor. It failed in April 1819 and some of its assets were acquired by Sir Robert Peel (1750-1830), the textile manufacturer who had co-issued silver tokens with Charles Harding in nearby Fazeley in 1811
