CELTIC COINS Iceni, Unit, Celtic head type, head left, pellet within circle, spoked to outer circle of pellets, reverse horse right, tripled tailed struck on a concave and large flan, 1. 5 gms (CCB —; cf. S 433; Symons, NC October, 1990, 14; Mays, BAR 222, p. 62; cf. Mossop, lots 86-87). Fine, reverse somewhat better, very rare (£120-150)

The catalogue entry for this type in the Mossop sale catalogue read “probably a forerunner for the crude Icenian head types.” Unusually heavy at 1.5 gms, the two Mossop coins weighed 1.32 and 1.25 gms. These coins, lots 86 and 87, described as VF and F, sold for £580 and £200 respectively.
