A Great War ‘Western Front’ M.C. group of three awarded to Lieutenant Thomas Edward Cairns, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse inscribed, ‘Passchendaele 25.9.17 Lieut. T. E. Cairns, 7th att. 2nd A. & S.H.’; British War and Victory Medals (Lieut.) good very fine (3) £800-900

M.C. London Gazette 6 April 1918. ‘2nd Lt., A. & S. Highrs.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as transport officer. When the situation was very obscure on the right of an attack he got forward the rations and water for the battalion under very heavy fire and in spite of numerous casualties, showing great determination throughout.’

Thomas Edward Cairns entered the France/Flanders theatre of war as a 2nd Lieutenant on 12 March 1916. He was wounded on 25 May 1916. As a 2nd Lieutenant with the 7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders being attached to the 2nd Battalion, he was awarded the Military Cross. Cairns was advanced to Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in July 1917. With copied m.i.c. and gazette extract.
